We opened today in usual Sunday fashion: by shopping. You see, ever since we started using The Grocery Game to maximize our coupon savings we have made a bit of a Sunday morning ritual. Tasha wakes up early to clip coupons, and after I get up we make the rounds. Coupons run in cycles, and The Grocery Game works by stocking up on items that you may not explicitly need when they are on sale so you can weather the bad sale weeks.
The last few weeks have been pretty abysmal, so we knew a good week was right around the corner. This week it hit. We paid $129.40 worth of stuff for $83.56, saving $45.84 (or 35.4%). In addition to that, the list helped us buy selectively and qualify for $17 in Register Rewards (basically it’s free Walgreens money that you can spend on future purchases). If you factor that in, we saved right around 48.5% on our purchases.
So hooray for us!
In order to finish up the deck, I was in need of some wood putty to fill in the cracks and repair the damage that I described yesterday. That led us to the local Menard’s, and after some discussion Tasha and I decided that we needed to get a ladder to remove the shutters and clean out the high gutters. I elected for one of the convertible ladders that reconfigures into different heights, and thanks to my Saturn’s fold-down seats I was able to fit the entire thing into my little sports coupe.
I spent the rest of the afternoon puttying my deck. I’m going to need to do another round and some sanding before its ready for painting, but progress is progress. I’m pleased with the amount of home repairs that I got done during my vacation, but it always makes it go by so quickly!
