Tonight, I was able to hit the gym and after a 1.5 mile trek on the elliptical machine I decided that the weights weren’t for me tonight. I noticed the exercise room was mostly empty, with just some older guys on the spin class style bikes in one corner so I offered to run my team lead through an introductory karate class. I trained alongside my team leader and kept a pretty quick pace. He’s a very skilled bicyclist and triathlete so he was able to keep up, and his coordination was good enough that he was able to pick up the techniques quickly.
We ended up working on stationary punches, front kicks, downward blocks, rising blocks, and lunge punches. He picked up front stance quickly, so we did front kicks moving up and down the floor, and we even did straight punches in kibadachi before the night was over. I had a pretty goo d sweat going by the end, and it was a good finish for a long week. We might make this a Friday night habit at the gym, since the Fitness+ class that uses the room doesn’t meet on Fridays. This should make for a nice supplementary workout for me!
