When I got home from the spirit training in the morning, Tasha and I did our normal monthly banking and then headed out for a Denny’s breakfast. We came back home and took a two hour nap, and then I headed off to the gym with my team leader. We saw that a lot of the machines were full and the aerobics room was empty, so we made a karate workout of it. I worked with him on punching and blocking, working to show him how to use the hips to generate more power.
I let him do the standard white belt practice of learning how to punch someone, and he did very well at that job leaving me with a pretty decent red belly. We did some partner training so I could get him used to blocking a punch, and then I showed him Heian Shodan. We did that for about 20 or 30 minutes, and decided to call it a day. I rounded out the workout by doing a Sochin kata. I discovered an interesting side-effect of the impromptu karate workouts at the gym… doing karate in your sweatpants and a t-shirt shows you different aspects of your stance and body position that are hidden by the baggy karate gi. I made some corrections on myself during Sochin as a result, so I got something out of it as well!
I think I’m about all karate’d out for the day, I’ll be heading over to a coworker’s house for dinner and social time tonight!
