The idea for this post comes from my good buddy Scarab. I was complaining about the lack of a blog topic tonight, and she recommended that I write a post about why 2009 sucks. Now, I’m not entirely convinced that 2009 is beyond repair at this point, but I’ll point out a few obvious things and a few personal things as well.
2009 Sucks Because… The Economy is in the Crapper.
Yeah, this one is obvious. Folks are losing their jobs left and right, both at my company and… well… everywhere. Greedy banks are being given taxpayer money to give their employees bonuses, everyone thinks the sky is falling, and nobody seems to realize that the stock market isn’t crashing… it’s just on sale right now.
2009 Sucks Because… I’m not out of debt yet.
Speaking of the economy, let’s talk about personal finance now. We’re in year three of debt repayment, and we’re not done yet… but we’re getting close. I’ll be happy to see the other side of this phase of my personal finance plan, its getting a little old still looking at the student loan balances we have left to shift.
2009 Sucks Because… I’m 942 miles away from friends and family.
This one is pretty easy for everyone to understand. I’ve got friends here, but my lifelong friends and family are all still in IL. With the aforementioned economic situation, many people are trimming back their plans to travel or being forced to use their vacation days in non-vacation fashion. That might limit the amount of people that will come to visit us this year, which sucks.
This is probably going to be a recurring “this sucks” bullet point for the next few years. Hoo-ray.
OK, three items is about all I can come up with at the moment and I’m tired of typing. So that’s all from me for now, more tomorrow!
