Since most of my office is musically inclined in some form or another, we’re having a work “jam session” get together on Thursday. One of my managers decided to find a few easy chord songs for those of us aspiring guitarists, and one of the songs that he picked was “The Old Apartment” by Barenaked Ladies.
This song is pretty freaking simple, just three main chords: G, D, and Cm7. Some tab has a few extra chords in there toward the end, but to get the bulk of the song its just those three. Since I know this song very well, I was actually able to pick this up quite quickly. In fact, I got in some (much needed) strumming practice in and “filled in” part of the tune where the other instruments come in by hitting the Cm7 chord a few more times. I’m pretty proud of myself for the practice time tonight!
I got a little ambitious and went out to the Bathroom Session YouTube videos and tried my hand at a few of the chords in “Light Up My Room” but that picking pattern is a little beyond me still. Tonight was pretty darned encouraging though!
