The office was still very much abuzz from our jam session last night, and that energy seemed to spur me into bursts of productivity, followed by lulls of recreation on this happy Friday. I got a lot done this morning (I was accused at one point of having my “serious face” on) so I decided to take some “me time” over the lunch hour and get my hair cut. I came back and got some additional work done, followed by a few conversations about how to select a good beginner electric guitar.
I did some looking around online, and there are a few really inexpensive starter electrics. Our resident guitar expert at the office said that the entry-level offerings are actually pretty good. He recommended that I stay away from a guitar that has a tremolo. He says that instruments at the lower end of the spectrum are notorious for not staying in tune well with the stock hardware, and that he’d recommend just getting one without to learn on. Based on some online research, I’m looking strongly at the Epiphone Les Paul Special 2, the Epiphone SG Special, or the Fender Squier Stratocaster. That list is in general order of interest. Also, for the record, no… I’m not looking to buy them all from Amazon either, that’s just a place with good product shots. I’m leaning toward the Les Paul Special 2, its got generally very positive reviews on several guitar websites. Inexpensive is one of the major criterias here, since I’m saving up my discretionary money but I’m not opposed to waiting a few months and getting one that is a little further up in price. I’ve just plain not decided yet.
Just as I was settling back down to my work-groove, someone showed up at my desk wanting to know if we could do a late working lunch so she could run a few ideas past me, so we did. I got back to the office in time to put a few bugs to their death before the end of the day, so in all we’ll chalk today up as a massive success. The mood around the office was happy and relaxed, which is just what a team social outing should do. Here’s to hoping we get to do a lot more of these in the future!
I came home and Tasha and I hit the grocery store to pick up some more Coke, and after we had dinner I decided to indulge in a long nap. It was something I had been trying to do all week, and I feel MUCH better for having finally done it. Thankfully, I didn’t sleep too long to screw up my blogging goal!!
