Tonight’s workout was led by one of Sensei Yaguchi’s head instructors. He declared it kata night, but we still spent over half of the workout on basics! We did kicking for awhile, and the instructor was “racing” me down the floor trying to cover the same amount of distance as me. It was pretty fun! He made a few jokes, goading one of the other guys “he’s only taking 3 kicks to get across the floor, are you gonna let him beat you? C’mon!” That made me feel good!
Then it actually was kata time… we did Chinte and Nijushiho. I don’t know Chinte as well so it was a fun one to do. There were a few differences (which I’m finally starting to get used to) but I still find it a little tiresome to have the constant corrections. I enjoy learning the differences and its fun, but sometimes a man just wants to get through a kata unmolested!
Sensei Yaguchi is out of town this week, but hopefully I’ll get some more training with him next week. It was good to work out again for the stress relief!
