After a very long sleep in today, Tasha and I decided it was finally time to do something about the lawn. After unsuccessful attempts to contact our old lawn guy, a trip to Lowe’s yielded us a new lawnmower and I cut my lawn today. (Dad, don’t have a heart attack. It’ll be OK, really.)
I decided to get an electric mower this time… its a little different. They make cordless options but they are twice as expensive, so I decided to go with a corded one. Laugh if you will, but there was a method to my madness. You see, our moving policy is very stringent for when we move back to Peoria, and they won’t move anything that contains gas. This is part of the reason why we got rid of our old mower when we moved out here. Plus, we have a small yard so this was an ideal option.
The benefits of this thing: it is LIGHT. I was a bit worried about not having a self-propelled mower, but without the extra weight of the engine this thing is easy to handle. Second, it comes with a rear bag, side chute, and mulch option. I went with the rear bag for its virgin run and it worked quite well. It’s also very quiet, and I don’t think it throws out as much heat and dust as its more conventional cousin. Finally, it seems that a lot of people here in CO buy these things, so it helps us blend in with the locals.
Yes, before anyone asks: the cord does get in the way a little. On the upside, it pretty much makes mowing your yard into an exercise in computer programming… once you’ve had to figure out the A* algorithm that is trying to not run over your own cord while covering your entire lawn, you have a new appreciation for logic.
