After a third consecutive sleep-in, I got up and cleaned the rabbit cages this morning. Well, afternoon. After that, I made my way over to Musicians Superstore to try out some amps. They had the 4-watt Vox AC4TV that I was wanting to try, so I did. I was impressed at how loud that little amp was! Right next to it, they had the Vox VT50 which was nice but very complicated.
They had the Fender SuperChamp XD, which I have been test-driving thanks to Paul this week. The only type they didn’t have was the Peavey 60W Vypyr amp that I really wanted to try. I’m going to make an effort to find one of those around here before I make my final decision.
The folks over at Musician’s Superstore weren’t exceedingly helpful… the guy informed me that he didn’t have any Peavey amps (which was odd, since they’re listed as a Peavey distributor). I told him I was after tube amps after that, asking him what kinds they had. “Well, all along the wall there.” Thank you, beavis, I could have figured that one out for myself. I noticed their Fender SuperChamp XD was listed at the MSRP of $349.99, a full $50 more than most places have them for online. I tried out my amps without being molested too much by the salesfolk… he checked on me once to see if I had any questions and I didn’t.
I opted to pick up a few sets of strings, remembering that one of the salespeople had offered to put the strings on the guitar for me the last time I was in. I asked about that, and they asked if I had purchased my guitar here. I told them I had not, and was informed that the stringing service cost $15 if you didn’t buy the guitar there. Damn. No thanks dude, I think I’ll pass on that one seeing as how the strings I bought cost $3.49 and $13 respectively… doesn’t seem too sensible to pay more than the cost of the strings to have someone put them on for me.
On the way out, the salesperson took the opportunity to inform me that they service their amps here in the store and that comes with the purchase price if I buy from them. I was going to ask the guy if that was part of the $50 markup on most of the amps, but I decided to leave the issue alone. Oh well, I’ll try his merchandise and buy it from somewhere else if he can’t be competitive on either price or service. I ventured home and put the strings on my guitars, all for free. I know a little more about the amps I am interested in, so I can count the whole afternoon as a success.
In other news, I found the materials I had purchased for my multitouch table today! They were up in Tasha’s office, near the rest of the stuff we had stored in the old red room. I’m going to have to get it set up and determine what size of acrylic I need to get for the top. I might get that project done yet! 🙂
