20 years ago today, the first episode of The Simpsons aired. It was the Christmas Special entitled “Simpsons Roasting on an Open Fire“.
I know I started watching The Simpsons very early on, but I can’t recall exactly when. My parents didn’t really like it too much at the start, so I tended to watch it at my friends houses quite a bit early on. Everyone keeps saying that the show has been in a decline over the years, however I still keep finding entertaining episodes in more recent seasons. Rumors of the show’s demise have been going on for years, but I think it still has some life left in it.
One of my favorite memories of growing up with The Simpsons was the “Who Shot Mr. Burns?” two-part cliffhanger. It aired on May 21, 1995 and my buddies and I spent the whole summer trying to figure out who did it. I guess it was like Dallas for kids.
Anyway, Happy Birthday to The Simpsons! I hope there’s many more years of entertainment to be had!
