Tonight I started on one of my 2010 Goals, the Acoustic Genius series of TotallyGuitars.com. I had originally wanted to begin by completing Neil’s beginning lessons, but they seem to be having an issue with the beginning lessons so I decided to start with the fundamentals of the Acoustic Genius series. I’m glad I did! It covered a broad variety of topics in beginning music theory, what music is, how to count musical time, chromatic scales and the like. A lot of the content I remember from my junior high music classes, but it had been a very long time since I had thought about those lessons or tried to apply them in a meaningful way.
Neil does a good job of explaining the mechanics of the guitar and how the notes are structured on the instrument. He does a great job at comparing the guitar and piano and how notes are structured on each. I only ended getting through the first six parts of the first lesson tonight, there’s plenty more where that came from! I am tracking the amount of time I practice, but I don’t intend to blog about every class I complete. Without the video content, I can imagine that this would be pretty boring to most everyone reading this blog but I will post periodically to let you all know that progress is still being made.
