I got a call from a number I didn’t recognize tonight, so I let voicemail pick it up. It was Brian from MusiciansFriend who was calling to inform me that Gibson doesn’t know when they expect to fill my order for my Les Paul Traditional Goldtop, so the wait may be “indefinite.” He wants to know whether I wanted to keep the order open and wait for it to be filled or if I want to order something else instead.
Clearly, Brian is not aware of the weeks of research followed by the exasperated amount of time I spent waiting for my paycheck to post so I could use their three-day sale coupon to get the best deal on this guitar. So I called him back (got his voicemail) and told him that if there was a chance this order was still going to get filled that I wanted to keep it open, but if not he needs to call me so we can discuss resolution.
I have to say I wondered a bit when they had the expected availability as June 18, 2010 when I placed my order. I chalked this up to the amount of time it takes to build those guitars, and didn’t think much of it. I do have to say I’m fairly annoyed that MusiciansFriend continued to take orders despite the fact they didn’t have stock on hand, or at least had doubts about whether or not they were going to have enough to go around.
I can tell you this, though… if I do cancel my order, MusiciansFriend is going to have to part with a 20% (or more) coupon code that doesn’t expire or figure out some way to make up for the fact that I can’t hit that three-day sale any more. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed at this development.
Keep your eyes peeled here for more updates as they occur.
