I got a call back from the guy at MusiciansFriend, who explained the situation and asked if I wanted to keep my order open. He explained that Gibson committed to fulfilling all of the orders but they were placed on indefinite hold because they weren’t sure when they could fill them. I left it here for a bit, until I visited their website and saw that it was still listing my guitar for sale and available on 6/21.
I called the guy back, asking if the website was out of date and to fill out the story a little more for me. He explained that it was because Nashville was underwater and they had to halt their production line while things cleaned up. I told him that there’s not much I can complain about there, but it still seemed like dirty pool that they were continuing to take orders with no expectation or ability to ship the item in question. He told me in a very disaffected way that the website was all handled by another division and he had no control over it.
After some additional trolling of their website, I notice that there are other Goldtops for sale… there’s a significant price difference, but I would be remiss if I didn’t ask if they would just swap one of those out. I just called the guy back for the third time (making a nuisance out of myself for fun and profit) so we’ll see if he has any options this go-around.
