With many an Eagles tune in my head, I completed the last work day of a week that felt like it lasted a month. My buddy Sean was back on a plane to Peoria tonight, it was great having him around to help get this portion of our project back on the right track.
Unfortunately, one of my coworkers left us today to head to a job opportunity closer to home. We went out to celebrate his time with us and had lunch at Buca di Beppo, an authentic Italian restaurant here in Broomfield. Apparently it is a smallish chain that has 83 locations nationwide, and I found the food to be fairly authentic Italian and very good. It reminded me in some ways of Avanti’s, but with a lot more heavy handed “YOU ARE IN AN ITALIAN RESTAURANT” decor. For example, the party room we were set up in had a pope theme and had photos of old popes doing popely things. The restaurant does everything family-style, so the large round table we were sat at had a lazy susan in the middle that had a head-and-shoulders bust of the pope under glass.
Yes. That is creepy.
Now for the part that is REALLY creepy. I went to the restroom about halfway through lunch and was greeted with walls adorned with photos of the following: real babies peeing, nuns wiping the butts of children, and various paintings and sculptures of naked dudes. Now I know Italian people, as I am of Italian heritage. We find bathroom humor really funny. In contrast, I find it very unnerving and creepy to try to pee while being made to stare at a photo of a diaperless baby peeing at the camera.
The food was so good I plan to go back. I’ll just make sure I go to the bathroom before I go for dinner.
Now I’m wondering what horrors adorn the women’s bathroom.
In other news, my weekend got off to a good start: my guitar arrived! I’m going to withhold a full review until I can get photos so keep an eye out for that soon.
