Today was shopping day, I came downstairs to find that Tasha had already waded through a mountain of coupons. In addition, she had marshaled our Nintendo Wii components into bags to take to GameStop for resale. We headed out to perform this task with very low expectations, but I am pleased to report that the we were both pleasantly surprised.
For our Nintendo equipment (which I might remind you we haven’t used since we’ve moved out here to Colorado), we got $220. This was WAY more than I expected (I had high-balled an estimate at $70-$100) and drew us close enough to the price of a brand new PS3 to just go for it. So we did. As I write this blog post, our new PS3 is downloading a system update and shining down on me in full 1080p.
My buddy Matt quickly asked what games we’re interested in for it, and I quickly responded “dunno!” The primary use of the PS3 is going to be a no-holds-barred Bluray drive, since Tasha has been amassing new Bluray titles that our old Memorex drive refused to play. After the two failed attempts at negotiating Memorex customer support to make one of their firmware discs take effect we just gave up.
There are a few titles that interest me… I have missed the Final Fantasy series for a long time, and God of War seemed pretty good. I’ve also heard good things about Heavy Rain, mostly good in the sense that it almost drove one of my friends to insanity. Any way you shake it, I’m happy with our new purchase. I’ve been wanting to watch the new Star Trek on Bluray for awhile. 🙂
Good job, GameStop. You exceeded expectations this time. One suggestion: set up a donation bin for the things that you won’t buy back, I bet there’s some kid coming through your store that would like Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance for the original Xbox even if your computer tells you that he won’t. 🙂
