Today was a bittersweet day… the office was a little haywire, and it was the last day for one of my office buddies. The morning evaporated in a few quick meetings and design sessions, then it was time for Dave’s going-away lunch. After that, more meetings and a few interrupted attempts to do some coding wrapped up the afternoon.
In other news, it’s the first Friday of Lent and I’m three days into giving up soda. The headaches have turned much duller and the eye/face twitching has subsided. I need to get some iced tea or flavored water in the house, straight water is pretty dull. Tasha and I did take the opportunity to go out to a nice dinner tonight. We had originally targeted Baker’s Street Pub, but they had a 45 minute wait so we ended up at Red Lobster. I had the fish and chips, and we split their molten chocolate lava cookie thing for dessert.
Lastly, I’ve spent quite a bit of time this evening looking at the devastating photos and video footage of the earthquake in Japan. It seems that most of my dojomates that have friends in Japan have accounted for all of their acquaintances, but the destruction is almost unbelievable. I saw one photo of some officials measuring a spot where a road had split and the ground had pitched up what appeared to be five feet or more. That’s a lot of motion.
I really hope this is the last of the natural disasters that will befall the Pacific Rim, there’s been too much destruction and too many lives lost already this year.
