Lately, work has been stressful. For this reason, I’m actively trying to learn how to switch off that mental light switch at the end of the day that allows me to lapse into relaxation and family time. Today was a good example… it was a pretty busy day, with most of the morning spent catching up from last week’s undone work due to some impromptu meetings from the higher-ups. The afternoon was spent pairing with a new team member, which was rewarding and challenging all at the same time. The good news: the guy I’m working with is very pragmatic, wishing to set a target for checking in code prior to the end of the day so we can work cleanly without impacting other areas of development. Also, this affords us a certain level of certainty that at a minimum the server builds before we go home for the night, which makes it easy for me to leave the next set of challenges for tomorrow. We’ve also been given the breadth and coaching to make sure we make these changes properly… dare I say it? Are things getting better at the office? I sure hope I don’t jinx it.
Regardless, I am looking forward more and more to my home and family time, including recreation. I’m interested in my hobbies again, Eve is getting old enough to exhibit personality, and spending time with Tasha is (and hopefully always will be) interesting and engaging. I don’t know what the cause is, but I’m figuring out a way to deal with things right now, and that’s about the best development a guy could ask for. More soon!
