Last night was my Mom’s 50th birthday party at my grandparents house. It was a great time, I got the chance to hang out with Ains and Justin for once in awhile. In discussion, Justin agreed to come and help me paint the basement on Saturday morning after I get my hair cut. Tasha has to work all day on Saturday and she’s pretty excited about the notion of having this done prior to her being home, I’m pretty pumped about getting to hang out with Justin for an afternoon.
Mom’s party was a great success, Tasha did a great job wrapping her present. She was really happy to have the gift card to Coldwater Creek so she could get some new clothes. I’m happy that she won’t look like a baglady in clothes three sizes too big. Dad also rolled a 20 with the Culver’s turtle ice cream cake that he bought Mom… imagine how this looked to someone that has been on a low carb diet for almost a year.
As we were eating cake, Dad mentioned that my aunt knew a guy that had to go into special care because of crippling arthritis (strange because he’s about 50) that has a four year old golden retriever that he has to get rid of. He’s had his shots, neutered, and has all of his registration papers. My aunt says he’s the sweetest dog in the world, which says a lot from a lady that doesn’t like big dogs very much.
Tasha and I have agreed to go and meet the dog and ask the guy some questions about his habits. I know how I am around dogs, so I’m concerned that this dog is going to remind me too much of my old dog and I won’t be able to leave him. I also don’t know how we’re going to coordinate the potting of the dog should we decide to take him as we don’t have 2/3 of a fence. Maybe one of those tethering kits that they sell could be an elegant solution. Or we could just get a fence.
My Mom was concerned about us “tying ourselves down” with a dog so soon. Apparently she thinks that I have aspirations to be a world traveler or something. I tried to explain to her that she could come over and watch the dog if we ever wanted to travel. Or the dog could come and stay with them.
Either way though, this dog is going to have to be used to being home during the day by himself. He’s also going to have to be pretty well behaved. Tasha and I have agreed that we are going to take some time to make a measured decision away from the dog so his dogly charms cannot sway our decision.
So the party was full of fun and interest. Round Two of Mom’s birthday will happen on Sunday with my Dad’s side of the family. That should be fun.
