Tonight was just the kind of workout that I needed. During the first class we got to help the lower belts do some partner drills relating to distance. Then we briefly split into groups to work on kata… I got to work with the red belts. They did a great job.
The second class was a nice heat-up with sparring combinations, the Heian kata, and Tekki Shodan. Then Sensei Brewer had the black belts pick a kata, I selected Sochin. We did the kata three times all the way through, and several partial sections. We did the same with Hangetsu and Gankaku.
I’ve come to the following conclusions: Sochin is starting to feel a little more natural, Hangetsu hurts my knees, and Gankaku is just plain out of my mind at the moment.
In addition to those three full katas that I get to count from the second class, I was able to pull off my 15 kata for the night bringing my grand total for the day to 18. Again, with the non-round number. Drat! 🙂
