Tonight was test night! There were only a few testing candidates, so they got to split off and have themselves a geniune dedicated pre-test class. The rest of us got to split into groups after some quick basics, I got to teach the seasoned white belts.
There were a few new white belt children tonight, they were both quite young and obviously having a difficult time with the notion of exertion. They made it through their first class without quitting, and I overheard their Mom asking them if they wanted to try this for a month. They agreed, so it appears that they will be back for another go. This makes me happy, I always like seeing new kids in the class (but not as much as some).
I love the notion of using karate to teach discipline and dedication to kids. I also love it when they are obviously having a hard time with it but they stick it out anyway. I hope my children have the same stick-to-it-iveness.
Onward to the test… there were only three candidates, and they all really had their A game on for the exam. Our resident purple belt really turned on the juice when sparring, he was more lively than I’ve seen him during kumite. I was proud of him as he whistled a few kicks off of Erbe-san’s gut, something I wish I could do with more ease.
All three candidates passed their exam successfully, it was very clear that they were all sweating it. They trained hard, tested well, and did what they set out to do so cheers for them!!
Before class, I picked up ten Sochin kata however my right knee almost gave out on me as I turned to do the second side kick. I am taking it easy for a little bit in hopes that whatever is wrong with it will heal and I can get back to business as usual. I’m a little concerned about it since I’ve never had knee problems before, and I can’t remember anything traumatic happening to it recently.
