Tonight it was just Oedewaldt, McCabe, Garls, Erbe, and I. We split the class into groups, McCabe and I started out working on pullback, but it went further down the path of projecting hips when doing front kicks. We also worked on pull back and hip action for blocking, as we had only the brown belts in the side room.
There was a nice interplay between McCabe and myself, by the end of class I think everyone had improved some aspect of their technique and we felt pretty successful.
We decided in between classes that we would run Tina-san through her paces for the test really quickly, then McCabe and I wanted to continue the second class with more of the same pull back, hip action, and we wanted to relate it to Bassai Dai.
Unfortunately, the pre-test for Tina-san took longer than advertised (she needed some focused attention on her kata and basics). We ended up with only 15 minutes to work with to do our lesson plan, so we condensed it to just hip action and pull back. Then we did a few Bassai Dai with that feeling and I think it was still a minor success.
In other news, I got my Sochin and Unsu DVDs from Ebay… they are very obviously DVD rips of the PAL (European video format) JKA Kata series videos that
