I’m learning more and more about the fine art of drinking sake.
I noticed tonight, while cracking a new bottle of the stuff that my cousin’s friend supplied, that on the label there is a “Sake Meter Value”. This particular bottle had a value of +3, and I noticed that it lacked the slap in the face that you get from other bottles of sake. This was very smooth, easy drinking sake.
The bottle of blueberry tinged sake that I had been drinking had a value of +1. The third bottle of red rice sake that I have yet to open has a value of -3.
I decided to investigate what the sake meter value means, and I found this simple, to the point explanation. Through my research, I found that it is a Western misconception that all sake must be served warm. I’m going to investigate this more and see if I can draw some distinctions that I can actually understand about why, what kinds, and how hot.
This is very fun and interesting stuff! 🙂
