It appears that I have been scammed by the following Ebay auction.
The auction lists the item as follows: “The camera has no signs of exterior damage. The camera will not turn on.” I have documented the following damage: dented viewfinder, scratched/damaged lens assembly, broken battery compartment and worn buttons, and finally a clearly cracked and damaged LCD screen. Interestingly, the only other assertion that “the camera will not turn on” is also false. It turns on, but is so significantly damaged that it won’t do anything.
I called Discover to see if they could overturn the charge, and they recommended I file a claim with PayPal beforehand. They said they could then overturn the charge if that did not resolve properly. I opened a complaint with PayPal tonight, after leaving a voicemail on the seller’s phone detailing the problem and the fact that I wanted my money back.
We’ll see how this shapes up, but I’m pretty pissed off right now.
