Tonight’s workout was interesting… the pre-workout consisted of Dad and I working largely on his 2nd kyu test basics, which he correctly maintains we don’t do enough of. We muddled through a handful of Bassai Dai (around 4-5, I think) and then it was time for class to start. I did manage to sneak in three Sochin before things got rolling, but it was a very paltry sum.
I led warmups, and decided to punctuate each stretching exercise with basic technique to get the muscles moving. I somewhat enjoyed warming up like this, I may try it again given the chance. The first class was basic drills, which quickly evolved to partner training distance exercises. It was a good time, and a great set up for the advanced class.
For the advanced class, we continued the trend of sparring drills, but this time in a more relaxed, one time sparring mode. I felt like I was running hot and cold during this, with really good strong attacks with one partner, followed by really bad attacks with another. Overall, it felt good to let loose and blow some of the stress out of my system, despite the fact that most of my bad techniques were attempted while Sensei was watching. But that’s how things like this roll. 🙂
For some reason it became apparent to me midway through sparring
Big plans for this weekend, as (Not So) Secret Sochin II is scheduled for Saturday morning/afternoon in Mapleton. We’ll be starting at 8 am and going until they kick us out, if anyone cares to join.
