I just set up some software that allows me to administrate my Home Automation kit through my Linux machine. No more need to make Teddy run upstairs when the motion sensor goes off during D&D now!
This was a “it just works” moment of Linux zen. I might toy around with writing up a Java Swing app to run the commands, as the default TCL app that comes with the software is Quite Ugly.
Also good: having a cron job that runs shortly after I leave for work to ensure that the living room and bedroom lights are off may save a few cents in electricity. That should make all of my hippy friends happy!
