Things have been slow with karate lately, I’ve had a lot of work related stuff to deal with.
Last Saturday, we had a pretty good formal workout with Sensei Quinn. We warmed up with basics and went right into sparring drills. I’m starting to feel the benefits of some of the differences in sparring from keeping my body more bladed and using more hips. The benefits were easy to quantify: Sensei Quinn was having a little trouble hitting me in my stomach or chest, instead the only targets he had to take were my shoulders and the edges of my pecs (what little there are). A week later, they are still incredibly bruised.
Also, I made the grievous error of tagging Sensei Quinn in the chin during that same drill, which may account for the bruising. 🙂
Today, the crowd was small on account of the Saint Louis seminar. I had to stay behind because I had to work, luckily my Dad, Garls-san, and Rush-san all had to stay behind for one reason or another. We did the 2nd kyu test (for the benefit of my Dad), and then made it through the Heian katas, Tekki katas, Bassai Dai, and Sochin. It was a nice, laid back workout.
Things are starting to return to normal at the office so I should be more regular about working out soon. That means I’ll have more karate stories to provide if everything goes well, and this blogging drought will be over.
