Tonight was another excellent set of classes by Sensei Quinn. It was a basic class, focusing on form, stance, and pullback. For some reason I just can’t get my back heel to stay on the ground and push off correctly. The more I think about it, the less I do it right. It was a constant frustration all through the first class, thankfully it worked out (or I didn’t care quite so much) as we headed into the second class.
The second class took on the format that Sensei Brewer has been using lately, with techniques and combinations done in sparring stance and then we get to apply them with partners. It was a picture perfect whetstone to sharpen our necessary Sandan skills on, and I was happy to find one of the combinations (again, nameless for the sake of getting to use it on you, gentle reader) was actually somewhat passable and it will be coming soon to a theater near you.
In between classes, we got on the topic of tournament kumite and Sensei Quinn brought some pictures of several guys that appear in the videos in my karate reference tag and we swapped some fun tournament memories. I wish we had time to get together to share more war stories like that, it was enjoyable.
